Celebrating Our Climate‑Ready Classroom Award Achievement May 2026 - The Weatherbies visited our school today to help us celebrate receiving this fantastic award. They were delighted to see all the wonderful eco‑work happening in Nursery and how we use their characters to help our children learn about climate change from such a young age. Their visit recognised the creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment shown by our pupils as they explore weather, sustainability, and caring for our world.

Term One

Hello everyone, we are Mrs O' Doherty's Sunflower Room class. We have been settling in great . We have some photos to share with you and how much fun we have been having at Bligh's Lane Nursery School.

With Halloween being the highlight of October we have created lots of lovely paintings and drawings of witches and 🎃 pumpkins, just take a look.

We have been busy getting the school ready for our Nativity as well as Santa. We are all excited and have been doing lots of different activities and art work.

Term 2 offered a wonderfully rich period of play-based learning, with children engaging deeply in topics such as Winter, People Who Help Us, Easter, and Spring. Across all areas of the NI Pre-School Curriculum, children demonstrated growing curiosity, confidence, and independence as they explored these themes both indoors and outdoors.

Throughout the term, children developed a wide range of enriching vocabulary linked to seasonal changes, community roles, celebrations, and the natural world. Their understanding was strengthened through hands-on experiences, sensory exploration, stories, role play, and outdoor investigations.

  • During Winter, children explored cold materials, seasonal weather, and early scientific concepts, building strong language around temperature, clothing, and environmental change.

  • The topic People Who Help Us supported meaningful conversations about community roles, safety, and responsibility, with children showing increased confidence in expressive language and imaginative play.

  • Easter and Spring brought opportunities to observe growth, new life, and change in the environment, encouraging children to use descriptive vocabulary and make connections with their outdoor learning experiences.

Across the term, children demonstrated strong engagement, sustained attention, and growing social skills as they collaborated, problem‑solved, and followed their own interests. Outdoor learning continued to be a key strength, offering space for movement, exploration, and rich conversations that deepened their understanding of the world around them.

Overall, Term 2 was a highly positive and productive period, with children showing clear progress in their language development, conceptual understanding, and confidence as learners.
